13137 THE MUSIC OF BALI, VOLUME
TWO: LEGONG GAMELAN - TIRTA SARI
An ensemble of gongs, metallophones, xylophones, fiddles, flutes, zithers,
and drums perform kebyara fast, dynamic music full of dramatic
contrasts, tempo changes, and sudden loud outbursts.

13161 YOGYAKARTA: GAMELAN
OF THE KRATON - KAWEDANAN HAGENG PUNAKAWAN - KRIDO
MARDAWA
The beautiful, otherworldly music found here is indigenous
to Java and is performed on a gamelan: a sacred collection
of tuned gongs, metalkeyed instruments, xylophones, drums, and
a small array of wind and stringed instruments. At times, Western
snare drums and brass instruments are incorporated into the arrangements,
reflecting the 18century influence of the Dutch East India Co.
