* 13161 YOGYAKARTA: GAMELAN OF THE KRATON - KAWEDANAN HAGENG PUNAKAWAN - KRIDO MARDAWA

The beautiful, other–worldly music found here is indigenous to Java and is performed on a gamelan: a sacred collection of tuned gongs, metal–keyed instruments, xylophones, drums, and a small array of wind and stringed instruments. At times, Western snare drums and brass instruments are incorporated into the arrangements, reflecting the 18–century influence of the Dutch East India Co.
